Awareness is different everywhere
Kinky Events Berlin publishes events from various providers – with very different focuses, approaches, formats, and target groups. Some of these spaces are open to many, others are deliberately exclusive. But whether public or selective, large or small: wherever people come together – especially in contexts that work with intimacy, power, pleasure, pain, and vulnerability – a conscious and ideally transparent approach to how the spaces and interactions are shaped is needed: the awareness approach.
What does awareness mean?
Awareness means being informed, aware of one's own contribution, and actively shaping things within one's own sphere of influence.
Especially in the kink, sex, and fetish scenes, many people operate on the fringes of social norms. This can be empowering and liberating – but also risky. Discrimination, boundary violations, abuse of power, or excessive demands can occur even in supposedly "safe" scenes.
Awareness is not a set of rules, but a process, an attitude, and a continuous, shared learning process. It means respecting boundaries—our own and those of others. It also means observing, supporting, intervening when necessary, and taking responsibility—as individuals, as organizers, as a community.
Different concepts—a common goal
Awareness can look very different—depending on the event, location, team, and community. There is no universal solution, no "right" or "wrong." Different events have different needs, target groups, and dynamics—and each develops its own awareness concepts.
That's a good thing. Diversity is part of our culture. What's important is that these concepts are transparent, implemented respectfully, and driven by a genuine desire to create a mindful space for everyone.
However, some common points are important to us:
-
Consent is the foundation
-
No room for discrimination, hate, and incitement
-
Respectful interaction
-
Clear responsibility and influence
-
Safety and risk awareness
-
Peaceful
Different concepts – different spaces
Every event has its own atmosphere. And every awareness concept must fit that.
What feels safe for one person may be too much – or too little – for another. A sex-positive dance party needs different structures than a queer workshop space, a BDSM play party, a men-only event, or a purely FLINTA* space. There is not one "right" form of awareness – but many good ones. What's important is that it's sincere, well-communicated, and implemented responsibly.
Therefore: Not every form of awareness is suitable for everyone. And that's okay. Find out in advance about the awareness concept of the event you plan to attend.
Where can I find information about an event's awareness concept?
You can usually find this information:
-
on the event's website or ticket shop,
-
on the organizer's social media channels,
-
or directly upon request from the respective organizer.
Report awareness centrally – anonymously possible
Some things can't be resolved directly on site – or only become apparent later. That's why Kinky Events Berlin has a central awareness email:
📧 awareness@kinkyevents.berlin
You can ask questions and report incidents there – even anonymously.
In consultation with you, we will inform the affected organizers without revealing the identity of the person reporting. This also makes it possible to point out problematic behavior by organizers or their environment – safely, securely, and taken seriously.
For a mindful scene
Awareness is not a trend, a guarantee, or a promise of perfection. But it's a central part of any event culture that strives to be not only sexy but also responsible.
Awareness is a shared concern. Help ensure that our scene remains a place where we care for one another – mindfully, respectfully, and empoweringly.
